FROM THE JAN. 11 CHRON:
But the big news on Caltech’s Pasadena campus came Saturday: Caltech won a basketball game. It may seem that Caltech, a nonscholarship Division III program, last won a game 540 million years ago when single-celled forms ruled the earth, but it was really a little more than two years ago, when the Beavers topped Life Pacific back in November 2004.
Saturday’s 81-52 victory over Bard College ended that 59-game losing streak, but perhaps more significant, it halted Caltech’s 207-game losing streak to NCAA Division III opponents, a streak that began after the Beavers’ 1996 victory over Principia.
Caltech still has a 22-year, 246-game conference (SCIAC) losing streak after Wednesday night’s 103-40 loss to Occidental, so there are still some mountains to climb.
HAPPY TO SEE THE UNIVERSAL CONSTANT OF OXY CRUSHING CALTECH IS STILL IN PLAY.
