So I finally got around to contacting Oxy’s development office, and it should be no problem to make a donation to Oxy from the foundation. But, we need to be a little more specific. Here’s an excerpt from what I heard back:”please let us know if there is a specific purpose you have in mind for these funds. We are currently trying to raise funds for our Summer Undergraduate Research program, the Omar Paxson scholarship fund for theater majors, and of course, scholarships in general – if any of these options appeal to you and your friends.”
Thoughts?

p.s. The person I heard back from was Lakshmi Dastur. Remember Lakshmi?

Since we cannot set up a fund that pays for Kegs in HR apartments (maybe we could offer to upgrade a refrigerator or two), it would simply need to be for scholarship funds – though if there is a way to direct it to the residential life budget that would be nice.
Living in the world of school finances I know that if we restricted it (asked for it to support a specific department) the most likely outcome would be the “general alumni fund” contribution to that department would drop by the equivalent amount as our “gift” to that department. Allowing the college to maintain its budgeting priorities while making us feel good about out help to said department.
For me, reading “Yak Foundation” in the annual report is the most important part after supporting the school.

I agree with Ron that any way to direct the benefits to Res Life would be swell.
Although I wouldn’t be able to pick Lakshmi out of a line up, she was good friends with Laura via the theater department I think. We get holiday cards from the Dasturs. Laura shared an amusing anecdote about Lakschmi in which her father, who is terrible with names, addressed her as ‘Korshkin’.

I’m good with whatever the consensus seems to be. An unrestricted gift is fine with me, but I also wouldn’t mind being associated with the Omar Paxson scholarship. Any money would be good for Oxy’s sickly endowment…
